1. The definition of global warming
Global warming refers to the long-term increase in Earth`s average surface temperature due to human activities, particularly the emission of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. These greenhouse gases, primarily carbon dioxide (CO, methane (CH, and nitrous oxide (N2O), trap heat from the sun and prevent it from escaping back into space. This process, known as the greenhouse effect, is natural and necessary for maintaining a habitable climate on Earth. However, human activities, especially since the beginning of the Industrial Revolution in the late 18th century, have significantly intensified this effect. The combustion of fossil fuels for energy, deforestation, and industrial processes have increased the concentration of these gases in the atmosphere to levels that are unprecedented in at least 800,000 years, as evidenced by ice core samples. The rise in greenhouse gas concentrations leads to a rise in global temperatures, resulting in a range
