1)Definition
Bone tumors are abnormal growths of tissue that develop in the bones. They can be classified as either benign tumors, which are non-cancerous, or malignant tumors, which are cancerous. Bone tumors can arise from the bone cells themselves, known as primary bone tumors, or they can be a result of cancer that has spread to the bones from another part of the body, referred to as secondary or metastatic bone tumors. The etiology of bone tumors can be complex and multifaceted, involving genetic mutations, environmental factors, and pre-existing medical conditions. Benign bone tumors, such as osteochondromas and osteomas, often do not pose significant health risks and may not require treatment unless they cause pain or other complications. On the other hand, malignant bone tumors, such as osteosarcoma, Ewing sarcoma, and chondrosarcoma, can be aggressive, leading to significant morbidity and mortality if not diagnosed and treated promptly.
