Ⅰ. 서론
Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is recognized as one of the most prevalent and aggressive forms of cancer, primarily affecting the liver. It is the most common type of primary liver cancer, constituting approximately 75% of all liver cancer cases. HCC has emerged as a major public health concern globally, particularly in regions such as Southeast Asia and sub-Saharan Africa, where the prevalence of hepatitis B virus (HBV) and hepatitis C virus (HCV) infections is notably high. The rising incidence of HCC in developed countries, linked to increasing rates of liver disease associated with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and alcohol-related liver disease, has further highlighted the urgency of understanding this complex malignancy.
