본문/내용
1. 교육 과정의 의미
교육 과정의 의미는 보는 시각과 관점에 따라 다양하게 해석되고 있다. 교육 과정을 넓게 생각하느냐, 좁게 생각하느냐에 따라 그 의미가 달라질 수도 있고, 어디에 전제와 중점을 두느냐에 따라서도 달라질 수 있다. 또, 누가 어느 수준에서 어떠한 준거와 방법으로 교육 내용을 결정하느냐에 따라서도 달라지게 된다.
‘쿠레레(currere)’라는 어원으로부터 출발한 ‘교육 과정(curriculum)’이라는 용어는 경기 코스, 트랙, 나아가 수행해야 할 교수 요목(course of study)을 의미하고 있다. 전통적으로 학교는 학생들에게 무엇인가를 가르쳐 왔다. 학생들에게 무엇인가를 의도적으로 가르치는 행위를 ‘교육’이라고 본다면, 그 ‘무엇’이 교육의 내용이 된다. 따라서, 의도적인 학교 교육에서 학생들에게 어떠한 교육 목표를 성취시키기 위하여 일정한 수준의 교육 내용을 선정하고 조직해 놓은 공통적인 기준을 ‘교육 과정’이라고 하는 것이 일반적인 경향이었다.
교육 과정에 대한 개념 규정의 어려움은 근본적으로 교육을 보는 시각, 인간과 사회를 보는 시각, 즉 사물을 보는 철학적 견해의 차이에서 온다. 우리는 흔히 ‘교육한다’는 말…
