킥헤퍼의 해석 킥헤퍼(Richard Kieckhefer)는 그의 저서 European Witch Trials, their Foundation in Popular and Learned Culture(Routledge & Kegan Paul, 1976)를 통해 민속종교가 엘리트의 악마주의에 의해 희생되었다는, 일종의 지성사적 접근을 하고 있다. 그의 해석에서 민중의 자발적인 마녀신앙, 또는 그에 대해 끼친 영향은 거의 고려되지 않는다.
