본문/내용
여기에서 마키아벨리의 여자에 대한 관념을 살펴볼 필요가 생겨난다. 마키아벨리가 마지막에 가서도 끝까지 인간의 역량을 평가절하하지 않았다는 것은 단순히 그가 Fortuna를 언어학적인 여성으로 파악하거나 운명의 특성을 사실적으로 표현하기 위해 여성의 속성을 빌어 얘기한 것이 아님을 보여준다. 그의 표현에서 Fortuna는 지구의 半을 덮고 있는 한 性을 소유하고 있고 여성의 모든 특성을 갖추고 있으며 실제적으로 인간에게 여성적인 패턴으로 다가오는 실체이다. 실로 그가 바라보는 Fortuna는 그녀가 가지고 있는 힘을 제외하고는 지구상에 존재하는 여성과 다를 바 없는 존재이다. 마키아벨리에게 Fortuna는 세상을 지배하고 있는 힘을 가지고 있지만 숭배의 대상도 아니고, 신의 섭리를 대행하는 자도 아니며 극단적으로 말하자면 단순히 초월적인 한 여성이다. 마키아벨리가 살았던 시대의 상황에 비추어 봤을 때 여성 앞에서 좌절하는 남성은 차마 인정할 수 없는 존재인 것이다.
