이러한 변신의 전략은 『헨리 5세』(Henry Ⅴ)에서 새로운 국왕의 즉위를 두고 “부왕의 임종과 더불어 왕자의 방탕이 사라졌다(The breath no sooner left his father’s body,/ But that his wilderness, mortified in him,/ Seem’d to die too)”(1. 1. 25-27)고 하는 캔터베리(Canterbury) 대주교의 반응과 “국왕이 방탕의 베일 아래 진지한 통찰력을 감춰두고 있었다(And so the prince obscur’d hiscontemplation/ Under the veil of wildness)”(1. 1 63-64)는 이일리(Ely)의 주교의 평가에서 그 정치적 성공이 입증된다.
핼은 찬탈 군주인 부왕의 계승자이면서도 장차 위대한 왕으로서 인정받으려는 정치적 의도를 갖고 있기 때문에 항시 자신의 행위가 타인에게 미치는 결과를 의식하며 이를 상업적인 가치로써 계산한다. 다음 장면에서 그는 기사도 전쟁과 같은 영웅적인 행위마저 물물거래의 대상으로 하락시킨다.

이 북방의 청년으로 하여금 그의 명예로운 행위를
제 수치와 교환하도록 만들겠습니다.
전하, 퍼어시는 저를 대신해 명예를
매점하는 대리인이옵니다.
제가 그에게 엄정한 회계를 명하겠나이다.
그 자가 긁어모은 모든 명예는
가장 사소한 것까지 양도해야 합니다.
아니면 내가 그의 심장에서 부채를 찢어낼 겁니다.
