골통, 디스크를 포괄하는 근골격계 질환이 19.4%의 순으로 나타났다. 따라서 노인이 중증장애를 겪게 되는 원인은 고령화로 인한 노인성 질환이라는 사실을 알 수 있다.
주질환에 대한 진단을 받고 난 시간을 살펴본 결과, 1년 미만이 22.7%, 1-3년이 21.3%, 3-5년이 18.0%의 순으로 나타나고 있다. 따라서 주요 질환이 발생하고 난 뒤 3년 이내에 중증장애를 겪을 가능성이 높다는 것을 알 수 있다.
또한 47.1%에 해당하는 장애노인에게는 와상일이 없는 것으로 나타났으며, 3개월 이하가 20.6%, 4개월에서 1년 미만이 12.2%, 1년 이상은 21.1%로 나타나서 중증장애노인이 누워지내지 않는 경우가 과반수에 이르고 와상상태에 있어도 그 기간이 길지 않다는 것을 알 수 있다.
일상생활능력 척도로는 일상생활수행능력(ADL) 6가지(화장실 이용, 세수, 용모단장, 옷 갈아입기, 식사, 집안에서의 이동)와 수단적 일상생활수행능력(IADL) 6가지(장보기·쇼핑, 전화사용, 집밖외출, 청소하기, 식사준비, 약품복용)를 사용하였다. 분석결과 ADL에 대하여 중증장애노인의 50.2%가 1-2개의 기능 제한을 갖고 있었고, 37.4%는 5-6개, 12.4%는 3-4개의 기능 제한을 가지고 있는 것…(생략)
