I. 서 론
1. 연구의 의의 및 목적
최근에 와서 인형극은 교육, 언어발달, 상담, 정신건강, 치료, 극, 음악, 오락 및 광고 등에 이르기까지 그 활용에 있어서 더욱 더 많은 관심을 받고 있다. 또한 인형극은 다양한 임상 장면과 연구에서도 사용되어 왔다. 즉 개인 아동치료(Irwin, 1983 : Irwin & Shapiro, 1975), 집단치료(Woltman : 1972), 그리고 가족치료(Irwin & Malloy, 1975)에 사용되었고, 이혼 가정의 자녀(Bunting. 1985). 정신(p. 26)지체아동(Myers, 1971), 시설 수용된 정신지체 성인(Merritt, 1985), 정서 및 행동장애아동(Caputo, 1993), 그리고 병원수용아동(Linn, 1977)과 같은 특정대상의 연구에서도 인형극을 사용하였다. 특히 Woltman(1972)은 아동에게 개인 및 집단 치료도구로서 줄인형(Marionette)및 손인형(hand puppet)을 사용하여 치료적인 인형극의 기초를 마련하였다. 아동국으로서 인형극의 사용은 비교적 새로운 현상으로 18세기에 들어와서 도입되었다. 학교 교육에서는 20세기에 와서야 그 교육적 가치를 깨닫고 활발하게 활용하였다.
