1) 모래놀이치료의 역사
모래놀이치료란 모래상자(tray)를 이용한 놀이치료 기법이다. 모래상자를 이용한 이 기법은 영국의 소아과 의사인 Lowenfeld에 의해 고안된 아동심리치료 기법이다. 그녀는 Freud의 이론을 아동의 치료에 적용한 Melanie Klein이나 Anna Freud의 공헌을 인정하면서도 이들의 방법에는 문제가 있다고 지적하였다. 즉, Freud의 이론을 아동의 놀이에 지나치게 적용시켜 해석하려고 하였다고 비판하면서 아동의 생각은 성인과 다르기 때문에 전통적인 정신기법을 그대로 놀이에 적용시키면 안된다고 하였다. 아동은 사고, 감정, 감각, 관념, 기억들이 모두 복잡하게 뒤엉켜 있으며 아동의 사고는 유동적이며, 단계적이 아니라 한꺼번에 서로 얽혀 있다. 또한 아동에게는 감정이 절대적이며 의식의 전체를 지배하고 있고, 아동의 개념은 외부세계(external reality)와 관계없이 형성된다. 따라서 정신분석 방법으로는 아동을 치료할 수 없기 때문에 특별한 방법이 필요하다고 보고, 해석(interpretation)이나 전이(transference)의 과정이 없이도 아동이 자기의 생각과 정서를 쉽게 표현할 수 있는 새로운 매체가 필요하다고 주장하였다…(생략)
