¢ºThe Water at the Zoo
The Taipei Municipal Zoo is located in the Wenshan District of Taipei. It occupies an area of 165 hectares, and is home to nearly 3,000 animals. The broad land area and ecological animal exhibits make this the largest zoo in Taiwan. When the Zoo was built, the entire park used a single source of water municipal running water. That included water for the fountains, animal ponds, the ape island, and the man-made river and hippopotamus pond, rinsing of animal wastes, landscaping uses and watering of plants. The park`s annual water use is between 1.2 and 1.5 million tons, and as a result, in recent years the cost of water alone has approached NT$ 10 million. (US$ 312,500 @ US$ 0.25/m3)
In recent years, people have gradually come to realize the importance of recreational activities, and with the completion of the MRT system, every year 4 to 5 million visitors come to the Zoo. The Zoo is also constantly developing more exhibit spaces, and so whether it`s animal dr¡¦(»ý·«)
