2) 예수와 초대교회의 성령론과의 관계에서
신약에서 πνευμα는 총 379번 언급되는데, 예수께서 직접 ‘성령’을 언급하는 경우는 드물고 그것도 ‘성령을 주다’(마 12.28; 눅 11.13; 요 3.34; 20.22 등)라는 표현 등 ‘구원’과 연결되는 경우는 매우 드물다. 특히 복음서 이외의 결과로 주어지는 대상으로 나타나있지 않다. 이것은 성령이 예수의 구속사역의 결과로 주어지는 대상이기 때문에 아직 그리스도의 죽음과 부활 등 예수의 구속사역이 완성되기까지는 성령이 주어지는 대상으로 표현될 수 없음을 암시한다고 볼 수 있다. 그러나 여기서 성령은 아직 주어졌다고 할 수 없지만 이미 구원은 선포되고 있는데서 성령과 구원의 관계를 설정할 필요가 있다.
먼저 살펴볼 구원론은 예수와 바울의 연속성에 대한 매우 중요한 논쟁점들 중의 하나이다. 그동안 역사적 예수와 믿음의 그리스도를 구분하려는 시도가 많은 비평적인 학자들에 의해 제기되어 왔고 그중에서 가장 기본적이고 중요한 문제는 예수의 하나님 나라 선포와 초대교회의 그리스도의 죽음/부활 선포가 양자의 불연속성을 보여주는 증거인가라는 것이다. 최근에 김세윤은 복음서와 비교할 때 바울서신에 예수의 말씀들이 사실상 인용되지 않은 형상에 대하여 대답하면서 이 문제와 연결하여 다음과 같이 설명한다.
