Ⅱ. 디지털 경제시대의 도래
로 알려진 ‘고전적 산업혁명론’은 역사에서 단절성을 강조하고 노동자의 지위에 대한 비관적 입장을 취하고 있다. 이에 반해 언윈(G. Unwin), 클래팜(J.H. Clapham), 로스토우(W.W. Rostow) 등으로 대표되는 고전적 산업혁명론 비판론자들은 역사의 연속성과 낙관론의 입장에서 ‘산업혁명’이란 용어 대신 ‘공업화(industrialization)’란 용어를 사용한다.
21세기 경제사에서 ‘디지털 혁명’인가, ‘디지털화(digitalization)’인가의 문제 역시 역사의 연속성과 단절성을 강조하는 역사가의 관점 차이에 따라 동일한 맥락에서 논의 될 수 있을 것이다. ‘산업혁명’이 이전의 중세사회와의 단절을 통해 부르주아 시민사…(생략)
2.1 산업혁명과 디지털혁명
주지하듯이 18세기 중엽부터 영국에서 시작된 산업혁명(industrial revolution)은 근대 자본주의 사회의 확립을 의미한다. 근대경제사에서 이른바 토인비-해먼드 명제 “산업혁명이 과거와 단절된 새로운 산업사회로의 급격한 사회변화를 가져온 과정이며, 그 속에서 전체로서의 부는 증가하였으나, 노동자의 경제적 지위는 악화되었다”. 김종현(1989), p.30로 알려진 ‘고전적 산업혁명론’은 역사에서 단절성을 강조하고 노동자의 지위에 대한 비관적 입장을 취하고 있다. 이에 반해 언윈(G. Unwin), 클래팜(J.H. Clapham), 로스토우(W.W. Rostow) 등으로 대표되는 고전적 산업혁명론 비판론자들은 역사의 연속성과 낙관론의 입장에서 ‘산업혁명’이란 용어 대신 ‘공업화(industrialization)’란 용어를 사용한다.
