이중언어 단어재인에서의 문자 및 음운 정보처리 특성
요약
본 연구는 점화 어휘 판단 과제(primed-lexical decision task)를 사용하여 한국에 거주하는 미국인과 한국인 대학생 집단의 영어 단어 재인시 문자 및 음운 정보의 역할을 알아보기 위해 실시되었다. 모국어 단어 재인시에 형태가 유사한 점화 자극은 목표 단어 재인을 촉진하는 것으로 알려져 있다. 이런 형태 점화가 나타나는 이유는 선행되어 제시된 자극이 어휘 접근 혹은 어휘 접근의 정보 처리 과정을 촉진하기 때문이다. 본 연구에서는 모국어 단어 재인시에 발견되는 형태 점화 효과(form priming)가 외국어 단어 재인에서도 나타나는지, 형태 점화 효과가 나타난다면 그 효과의 원인이 문자적 유사성(orthographic similarity)에 의한 것인지 아니면 음운적 유사성(phonological similarity)에 의한 것인지를 밝히기 위해 실험 1-가와 실험 1-나를 실시하였다. 실험 1-가에서는 비단어 점화 자극(nonword prime)을 사용하였고 실험 1-나에서는 단어 점화 자극을 사용하였다. 실험 1-가의 결과는 미국인 피험자의 경우에는 비단어 점화 문자열의 목표 단어에 대한 문자 유사성과 음운적 유사성이 어휘 판단을 촉진시킨 반면에 한국인의 경우에는 시각적 유사성만이 영어 단어 재인에 영향을 주는 것을 보여 주었다. 실험 1-나의 결과는 미국인의 경우에는 단어 점화 자극의 목표 단어에 대한 시각적 및 음운적 유사성이 방해적 점화 효과(inhibitory priming effect)를 일으킨 반면에 한국인의 경우에는 어휘 접근후 과정으로 음운 유사성이 목표 단어 재인에 촉진적 영향을 주는 것을 보여 주었다. 이런 결과는 한국인이 외국어인 영어 단어를 인식할 때 시각적 정보에 의존하고 음운 정보에는 둔감하다는 것을 의미한다.
