7. ISO 9000 시리즈
영국은 산업분야별 유사제도를 통일하여 단일 규정을 수립해야 할 필요성을 느끼고 ISO 9000 시리즈의 모체가 된 BS5750표준을 발행하였다.
1987년 ISO 9000시리즈가 국제품질 보증규격으로 제정되기 이전 유럽 및 여러 북미국가에서는 품질보증에 관련된 규격을 오래 전부터 사용해 왔는데, 영국의 BS5750, 캐나다의 CSA Z299, 미국의 ANSI/ASQC Z1.15, 프랑스의 NF-X50-110 등이 그것이다.
이와같이 각국이 개별적으로 운영하는 것이 국제무역에 장애요소로 대두되면서, 1980년 초 ISO는 국제기술 위원회(TC176)를 조직하여 영국의 BS5750과 기타국가의 품질보증을 근거로 초기 초안을 작성하여 몇차례의…(생략)

1950년대 말 미국의 군수제품은 60%-80%가 작동기능에 이상이 있어 불량원인의 분석후 이를 방지하기 위해 미국방성은 MIL-Q-9858A규격을 제정하여 엄격한 품질보증제도를 운영케 하였다. 이 품질보증 제도의 성공으로 타산업과 미국이 가입되어 있는 북대서양 조약기구(NATO)의 회원국에도 전파되었다. 이후 여러나라는 각 산업분야별로 조금씩 다른 품질보증 제도를 수립, 시행하게 되었다.영국은 산업분야별 유사제도를 통일하여 단일 규정을 수립해야 할 필요성을 느끼고 ISO 9000 시리즈의 모체가 된 BS5750표준을 발행하였다.
