이러한 사정은 우리의 학교 현장에서 빈번하게 사용되고 있는 소집단 토의·토론의 경우에도 마찬가지다. 즉, 소집단 토론은 국어과 수업은 물론 다른 교과의 수업에서도 학습자 중심의 교수·학습 방법으로 널리 활용되고 있다. 박성방(1995)에서는 그러한 활동들이 잘 소개되어 있다. 그러나 현실적으로 이에 대한 전략 중심 지도가 거의 이루어지고 있지 못하다는 것이 문제점으로 지적된다. 따라서 도구 교과로서의 국어과에서 소집단 토론에 대한 전략 중심 교수·학습이 이루어져야 할 필요가 있다.
소집단 토론 상황에서 사용되는 전략을 추론해 내기 위해서는, 실제로 소집단 토론이 갖는 전략과 특성들을 분석하고 그 유형을 구체화해야만 한다. 그리고 그 결과를 토대로 교수·학습 내용을 제시해야만 한다.
이러한 점에서 김성장(1996)의 다양한 수업 사례는 주목할 만하며, 아울러 비교적 최근에 나온, 교실 학습 담화나 실제 담화를 분석한 문화기술적 방법의 몇 편의 논문들(박종훈, 1997. 유동엽, 1997. 등)도 상당히 진척된 수준을 보여주는 것도 사실이다. 그러나 이 역시 구체적인 전략의 제시나 그 적용들에 있어서는 많은 한계를 보여 준다…(생략)
