(5) 일상생활 기술 및 자기관리 지도 MacDuff 등(1993)은 자폐성 아동들이 1시간의 자유시간 동안 자신들의 활동을 변화시키기 위해 사진 활동 계획을 독립적으로 사용할 수 있다는 것을 발견했다(MacDuff, Kratz, & McClannahan, 1993). 이들은 9세에서 14세의 자폐성 아동 4명을 대상으로 아동들의 과제수행능력과 과제 계획에 따라 행동하는 능력을 증가시키기 위해 사진을 이용한 활동 계획(photographic plan)을 지도했다. 연구의 결론은 이러한 기술의 지도는 과제에 지속적으로 참여하는 능력과 계열화된 사진 계획을 다른 과제에도 일반화할 수 있는 능력을 향상시켰다. 대상아동들은 교사의 감독과 지시가 없는 다양한 장면에서 독립적으로 자신들의 활동을 바꿀 수 있었다. Pierce & Schreibman(1994)이 낮은 수준의 기능을 가진 6세에서 9세의 자폐성 아동 3명이 지시자가 없는 상황에서 자기-보호행동(신변처리)을 관리하기 위해 사진을 성공적으로 사용할 수 있는지에 대해 연구하였다. 사진 자기-관리 팩키지 훈련을 통해 아동들은 일상생활 행동에 참여하는 것이 증가하였고 부적절한 행동들은 감소하였다. 이 논문의 결과는 자폐성 아동들이 완전히 독립적으로 자신의 행동을 관리할 수 있다는 것을 보여준다. 과제와 장소에 따른 일반화가 거의 혹은 다른 부가된 훈련 없이 성취되었다. 따라서 결과는 사진 촉구가 장소와 과제의 일반화를 일으키는 데 성공적이라는 것을 제시한다(Wacker & Berg, 1983).
