2) 생각묶기 : 생각묶기는 생각그물을 통해서 발산된 아이디어들을 고르고 조직하는 단계이다. 본 연구에서는 생각묶기 전략으로 다발짓기를 이용했다. 그러나 쓰기 과정의 여러 단계와 교정에 대한 학생들의 인지적 부담을 고려해, 본 연구에서는 생각그물을 만든 바로 그 종이에다 정보를 추가 또는 삭제하고, 쓸 순서를 조직하기 위해 번호를 매기게 함으로써 생각묶기 단계를 간소화했다.
3)초고쓰기 : 초고쓰기는 생각꺼내기와 생각묶기 단계에서 만들어진 내용을 문자 언어로 표현하는 단계이다. 본 연구에서는 얼른 쓰기 전략을 이용했다. 얼른쓰기는 다음 단계인 자기 평가 또는 협의하여 고치기와 밀접한 관련을 맺는다. 그런데 대부분의 학습자들은 완성된 글쓰기를 초고쓰기의 목적으로 삼는다. 그래서 초고쓰기에 지나친 힘을 들이게 되므로 쓰기에 부담을 느끼게 될 뿐만 아니라, 그 다음 단계인 고쳐쓰는 활동에 지장을 주는 경우가 있다. 따라서 학생들이 짧은 시간에 정신을 집중해서 글을 쓸 수 있게 시간을 제한해서 지도했다.
4)고쳐쓰기 : 고쳐쓰기는 초고를 바탕으로 자기 평가 또는 동료와의 협의를 통하여 글을 고치는 것을 의미한다. 학습자는 자기 평가 또는 협의하기를 통하여 자신의 글을 되돌아볼 수 있고, 자신이 사용한 전략과 동료가 사용한 전략을 비교할 수 있다.
5)작품화하기 : 학생들은 글을 쓸 때 마음속에 이 글을 써서 나에게 어떤 효과와 이점이 있는지를 생각하며 목적을 가지고 글을 써야 한다. 특히 과정 쓰기에서 여러 단계에 걸쳐서 글쓰기를 지도하다 보면, 쓰기를 싫어하는 아동의 경우 교사가 쓸 과제를 제시하고 그냥 쓰면 되지 않나 하는 생각을 하게 된다. 아동들의 쓰기에 대한 흥미를 북돋우고 쓰기에 계속적으로 집중할 수 있도록 할 수 있는 것이 과정 쓰기의 마지막 단계인 작품화하기이다.
