The Biblical Yardstick Identifying True Leadership
The Bible sets a different yardstick in differentiating a true leader from false ones - hirelings, thieves and robbers.
Jesus said, " I am the good shepherd.
The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep"(John 10 :11)
There is no denying that all the attributes of leadership - courage, foresight, virility, knowledge, wisdom, patience, determination, incisiveness, insight, good family background, strong health, a keen mind and a myriad of other virtues - are necessary for leadership : but these qualities are ancillary, not primary.
These traits and qualifications will bear no meaning unless a leader possesses the spirit of self-sacrifice, the spirit of laying down his life for his followers.
The spirit of sacrifice is, according to the bible, the best yardstick to judge true leadership.
A true leader is willing to sacrifice his time, money, energy, knowledge and even his life for the sake of his people.…
