Ⅳ. 언론의 텍스트와 담론과 이데올로기
문화연구에서 의미는 주어진 것이 아니라 생산되는 것이기 때문에 동일한 사건에 대하여 상이한 종류의 의미해석이 가능하다. 하나의 언론 내용에 의미가 규칙적으로 생산되기 위해서는 의미를 만들어내는 것에서 어느 정도의 신뢰성, 정통성, 또는 정당성을 확보하여야만 한다. 그리고 그것은 대안적인 의미 구성들을 주변화, 격하, 또는 비정통화시키는 과정을 포함하게 된다. Hartley(1982)는 기호의 다원적 억양성(multi-accentuality)을 기호들이 가지고 있는 의미의 잠재력에서 파악하였다. Hartley는 언어적 기호들이 고정된 의미를 가지고 있지 않고 의미의 잠재력만 가지고 있기 때문에, 언어는 항상 담화 내에서 특정 방향의 의미로 유도되어 사용된다는 사실을 지적하고 있다.
언론의 구체적 내용을 구성하는 언어적 메시지와 영상적 메세지는 사회 내에 존재하는 다양한 사회세력들이 각 기호들을 자신들의 특정 이해에 이바지하는 평가적 강조에 고착시키기 위해 경쟁하는 투쟁의 장이 되고, 이는 곧 의미의 쟁취를 위한 투쟁(struggle over meaning)으로 볼 수 있다. 그래서 언론의 텍스트와 담론은 권력…(생략)
