3. 유아 조기/특기교육의 연구결과
우리나라 조기·특기교육의 실태를 알아보기 위해 교육부 유아교육정책과를 통하여 전국(서울, 부산, 대구, 인천, 광주, 대전, 울산, 경기, 강원, 충북, 충남, 전북, 전남, 경북, 경남, 제주 등) 사립유치원에 자녀를 보내는 부모 2600명과 사립유치원 교사 1300명을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하였다. 조기교육의 운영 실태와 문제점을 보다 구체적으로 그리고 정확하게 파악하기 위하여 현재 조기교육을 받고 있는 유아 1명을 대상으로 하루일과를 추적 관찰하여 분석하였다.
우리나라 조기·특기교육의 실태를 알아보기 위해 교육부 유아교육정책과를 통하여 전국(서울, 부산, 대구, 인천, 광주, 대전, 울산, 경기, 강원, 충북, 충남, 전북, 전남, 경북, 경남, 제주 등) 사립유치원에 자녀를 보내는 부모 2600명과 사립유치원 교사 1300명을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하였다. 조기교육의 운영 실태와 문제점을 보다 구체적으로 그리고 정확하게 파악하기 위하여 현재 조기교육을 받고 있는 유아 1명을 대상으로 하루일과를 추적 관찰하여 분석하였다.
(1) 사립유치원에서의 조기·특기교육 실태 조사
1) 조사 결과 요약
① 연구대상 유치원 중 88%가 특별활동을 실시하고 있었고, 3-4가지 이상을 실시하는 유치원이 58.3%에 달하고 있어 유치원에서의 특별활동 실시가 상당히 보편화되어 있고, 그 가지 수가 많은 것을 알 수 있었다.
② 유치원에서 실시하고 있는 특별활동 중에서 가장 많이 실시하고 있는 것은 영어(64.3%), 미술(50.9%), 체육(48.1%) 등이었다. 특별활동은 주로 유치원의 정규 수업시간에 실시하고 있었으며(66.2%), 교사들은 이로 인하여 정상적인 교육활동을 운영할 수 없다고 응답하였다. 외부강사가 특별활동을 담당하는 경우(71.4%) 교사가 보조자로 참여하거나 수업에 전혀 관여하지 않는 경우도 있어 유아지도에서 일관성과 연계성에 문제가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 특별활동은 주로 대집단(59.7%)으로 실시되고 있었다. 비용은 정규수업에서 실시하는 경우 유치원 교육비에서, 방과후에 실시하는 경우 부모가 부담하고 있었으며(35.2%), 교육비와는 별도로 특별활동비를 부과한다는 곳도 많았다(30.5%).
③ 유치원 교사들은 특별활동을 담당자는 반드시 유아교사자격증을 소지하고 있어야 한다고 인식하고 있었다.
