II 헬레니즘 세계
헬레니즘 세계는 비록 알렉산더의 죽음 이후에 열려졌지만, 헬레니즘 세계가 가능했던 것은 세계정복을 꿈꾸었던 마케도니아의 왕 알렉산더의 원정으로부터였다. 기원전 336년 마케도니아의 왕이었던 필립이 그의 딸의 결혼축하연에서 암살되자, 당시 갓 스물을 넘은 알렉산더가 그의 아버지의 왕위를 이어받았다.
알렉산더가 마케도니아의 왕으로 즉위할 당시, 그때까지 역사상 최고의 제국은 페르시아였다. 페르시아는 기원전 7세기말에 중흥하여 메소포타미아 지역에서 우위를 점했던 바벨론을 밀어내고, 메소포타미아 전역을 지배하는 거대한 세력으로 성장하였다. 다리우스1세(기원전 521-485) 때 이룩된 페르시…(생략)

헬레니즘 시대, 혹은 헬레니즘 세계는 알렉산더 대왕의 죽음 이후에 시작되었다. 헬레니즘 세계란 알렉산더 제국에 의해서 형성된 국가들이 기원전 323년에서 기원전 2, 1세기에 로마가 동 지중해를 정복하기까지의 기간동안에 가졌던 제도와 문명을 말한다. C. Briton, J. B. Christopher, R. L.
