백신의 접종후 방어효과 기간에 대한 연구에서 Brown 등22)은 접종 후 혈청양전을 확인한 136명 가운데 95%(129명)가 5년후에도 계속 항체 양성을 보이고 있다고 하였고, Krugman23)은 백신 접종 후 혈청양전되었던 소아들중 일반 가정의 아동은 14년후 99%(98/99)가 계속 항체 양서이었고 수용시설(고아원) 아동은 91%(71/78)가 양성이었는데 수용시설 아동에서 양성율이 낮은 이유는 그들이 자연 홍역에의 접촉기회가 적어서 면역강화효과가 적었기 때문이라고 하였다. 16년간 추적이 가능했던 수용시설 아동의 경우 16년후 항체 양성율은 87%(61/70)였으며, HI검사 역가는 접종후 평균 1:333에서 16년후 1:6으로 감소되었고 홍역을 앓은 아동들은 1:410에서 1:22로 감소하여 홍역을 앓은 경우의 항체가가 더 높았다. Miller24)는 홍역백신 접종자 4,500례에 대한 21년간의 추적조사에서 접종후 초기 5년간 방어율이 91%로 나타났으며 그후에는 0.5/1,000명의 매우 낮은 발생빈도를 보여 계속적으로 항체가가 방어수준 이상으로 잘 유지되었다고 보고하였으며, Markowitz 등25)과 Hull등26)은 백신 접종후 시간의 경과에 따라 백신실패가 증가되지는 않으며 이차 백신실패가…(생략)
