2.2.3 포름알데히드(HCHO)
포름알데히드는 자극적인 냄새가 있는 무색의 기체로 포르말린, 합판, 연소 시설 등에서 발생되는데 대부분이 공기비를 산출할 수 없는 개방된 공정에서 발생되며, 촉매 변환기가 없는 자동차의 배기 가스에 의해서도 방출된다. 또한 인체의 영향을 미치는 발생원으로 보면 일반주택 및 공공건물에 많이 사용되는 단열재와 섬유옷감이다. 이외에 실내가구의 칠, 난방연료의 연소과정, 흡연 생활용품, 접착제, 의약품 등에서도 방출되며 접착용 합성수지의 원료로도 사용된다. 따라서 실내포름알데히드 농도는 신축건축물에서 항상 높게 나타나며 조리기구나, 난로 등에서도 방출된다(MAS/NRC, 1981). 인체에 대한 유해성은 개인차가 있으나 눈, 코, 목 등의 점막을 자극하여, 피부에 닿으면 경화되는 수도 있다. 특히 눈은 포름알데히드에 대단히 민감하여 낮은 농도에서도 자극증상을 보일 수 있다(schenker et al, 1981). 장기간 폭로되었을 경우 기침, 설사, 어지러움, 구토, 피부질환 등을 일으킨다. 이를 좀 더 자세히 살펴보면 100-5000ppb의 범위에서 눈의 자극, 상부기도의 자극 등을 느끼고, 1000ppb정도에서는 냄새를 느끼기 시작하…(생략)
