Wonder Girls : Ways to Success
I. Introduction
Wonder Girls is one of the project group of JYP Entertainment, managed by Park Jin-young, a famous singer in Korea. This group is made up of five girls, and each girl is drafted by various auditions(E. g. Talent upbringing project - The challenge of 99% in 2001, broadcasted by SBS). The debut song is `Irony`(Feb. 13th, 2007), which is released as a single album. The reaction of the consumer was `very hot`. Recently, the group put its first standard album on the record market. The main title, `Tell me`, is the `very very hot` issue in the entertainment section. People hear and sing this song, see and dance after the dance, and even make UCCs. We tried to find why they are so enthusiastic over `Tell Me`, and the Wonder Girls.
II. `Retro`(Bock-go in Korean)
The recent american pop trend is `Retro`. The famous singers following this wave are Madonna, Christina Aguilera, and so for¡¦(»ý·«)
¨ç From teenagers to twenties : The people in this group might never heard about this kind of music before. Though this genre(Disco) appeared many years ago, they will feel it is something new and unique for them. This process leads them to have curiosity about this music, and make them try to listen, see or even dance after Wonder Girls.
¨è From thirties to forties : `Tell Me` got the sample from `Two of Hearts`, sung by Stacey Q, the famous singer in the 1980s. It means that this song is based on the sounds of 80s - Simplification of lyric and melody, and easiness to sing after, and repetition. Once the people in this group hear `Tell Me`, they will feel that this song sounds like the one they was very excited at when they was teenagers or twenties. It means, the memory in their brain came out and converted to the nostalgia while they hear this song.

From the analysis of two cases, `Tell Me` became well known not only to the teenagers, but also to the elder people.
III. Lolita syndrome
Lolyta Syndrome is the sexual attachment or perversion toward the young girls, as described in this novel. The current fame of Wonder Girls can be analyzed to this way.
This Lolita syndrome has tremendous popularity in Korean entertainment market. It is proven by Moon Keun-young in 2003. After her, Wonder Girls took this phenomenon to the singer division. The most popular member of Wonder Girls is Ahn So-hee. Despite of not very pretty appearance, everybody says she is very cute. But they cannot find what makes her like that.
The previous concept of women idol was `Sexy`. But now the trend is changing to `Lolita concept`. Therefore, we can find that `Tell Me` is the mixture of `Retro` and `Lolita Syndrome`.
